The reality hosts and news folks get the most money
by Nathan'ette Burdine: October 22, 2016

Variety released a list of the top reality hosts, news hosts, and television stars’ salaries.

Overall, there are more reality hosts and news folks earning more money than the television actors and actresses.

Take for instance the salaries of the top three reality TV Hosts and news folks compared to the salaries of the top three comedy actors and drama actors.

Judy Sheindlin (Judge Judy) earns $47M per year , Matt Lauer (Today Show) earns between $22M to $25M, and Ellen DeGeneres (Ellen) brings in $20M per year.

The top Comedy actors and actress , Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki(The Big Bang Theory), earn $1M per episode while Drama actresses, Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls), earn $750K per episode.

Mark Harmon (NCIS) brings in $525K per episode. The number of episodes the actors and actresses are in will determine how much they earn during the year.

So if Parsons, Cuoco, and Galecki are in less than 20 episodes during the year, then they will earn less than DeGeneres.

But if the top three Comedy actors and actress are in 24 episodes, then they will earn more than DeGeneres.

And depending on where Lauer’s income falls during the year, the top three Comedy actors and actress could earn more or less than Lauer.

As for Parsons, Cuoco, and Galecki earning more than Judge Judy, the chances of that happening are slim to none.

In order to surpass Judge Judy’s $47M per year salary from her show, the top three comedy actors and actress will need to be in forty plus episodes for their show.

And based on what I’ve seen, networks are not going to release forty plus episodes per year for one show.

There will be some people who point out that Judge Judy and Ellen DeGeneres earn as much money as they do because their shows are syndicated.

Although it is true that Judge Judy and Ellen DeGeneres’ shows are syndicated, it is also true that the hosts of shows that aren’t syndicated earn just as much or more money than many of the television actors and actresses.

Examples of this are Conan O’Brien (Conan), Megyn Kelly (The Kelly File), and Anderson Cooper (Anderson Cooper 360).

These folks are rank at numbers 9, 10, and 11 within the reality hosts and news hosts group.

O’Brien earns $12M per year. Kelly earns between $10M to $12M per year, while Cooper brings in between $9M to $11M per year.

And even with them ranked within the middle of their group, they still earn more money than the fourth highest paid comedy actor, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson of HBO’s Ballers.

Johnson earns $400K per episode. If Johnson does 20 episodes of Ballers, he earns $8M during the year.

The $8M that Johnson will earn during the year if he does 20 episodes of Ballers is less than the amount that Cooper, who earns less than O’Brien and Kelly, will make if he earns $9M during the year.

The same is true for the drama actors and actresses. Claire Danes (Homeland) and Mariska Hargitay (Law and Order SVU) are the fourth highest paid drama actresses. They earn $450K per episode.

If Danes and Hargitay do 20 episodes per year, they will earn the same amount as Cooper if he earns $9M during the year.

Keep in mind that Cooper earns between $9M to $11M per year. So depending on where his earnings fall during the year, he could still earn more than Danes and Hargitay.

Therefore, the most important point of all is that if any of you are thinking about entering the entertainment or news industry, then you should head over to where the reality host and news folks are because that’s where the money is.
